Traverse Place

Traverse Place is a up to 21-months program that exists to empower homeless young adults, ages 17-21, to take control of their lives in positive and purposeful ways. It encourages them to become independent and self-supportive.

Services Include:

  • Safe and stable housing

  • Assisting youth in developing skills to live independently and be self-sufficient

  • Education, information, and/or counseling to reduce substance use

  • Referrals and access to medical and mental health treatment

  • Preparation for obtaining employment

  • Opportunity for educational advancement or vocational training

  • Community service opportunities

What’s expected

Once accepted into Traverse Place, residents are required to obtain employment, attend school if they have not graduated, and put up at least 60% of their income into an escrow account that will be returned to them upon exiting the program.

Compliance with house rules such as completing chores, abiding by curfew, being substance free, non-violent and attending life skills training are necessary to maintain residency.

Youth must be physically capable of employment, attending school, be able to accept supervision by adults, maintain appropriate behavior with peers and wish to learn and apply decision-making skills for everyday life.
