Our Story Begins Here

❊ About Us ❊

The REACH program began in 1977 in response to growing community concern about the problem of runaway youth. A task force made up of representatives from area schools, probate court, law enforcement, community agencies, clergy, and young people met to establish the agency and its mission.

In 1981, REACH secured federal funding and became an independent community program. At that time, REACH expanded services to include Lapeer and Shiawassee Counties.

In 1996, funds were acquired to purchase, renovate, and operate a transitional living program for youth as part of an agency “continuum of care” strategy to serve homeless youth in Genesee County.

In February 1998, Traverse Place began taking residents.

In 2015, funds were secured through the federal government to start the Street Outreach Program. This allowed for youth to have easier access to needed services and streamlined entry into both REACH and Traverse Place.
